DAIRY CONFERENCE REMITS
REPRESENTATION ON MEAT BOARD LOWER RAIL FREIGHT ON COAL (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., To-dav. Tho National Dairy conference was continued this morning, when the following remits were carried:— “That the conference is of the opinion that railage freights on coal are too high and, as they are adding considerably to production costs, the Dairy Produce Board and the Railways Board should be asked to favourably consider a substantial reduction of such freights.” “That in vieAV of the importance of boneless beef, A 7 onl and export pork trade as auxiliary to the dairy industry, the conference impresses upon the GoA'ernment the desirability of tho dairy industry being directly represented on the Meat Board, and urges the Government to bring this into effect.” The discussion of remits Avas interrupted in order to hear addresses by Dr. Marsden, of the Scientific Research Department, and Mr G. M. Valentine, assistant-director of the Dairy Division, the former dealing with research in relation to the dairy industry and the latter with matters affecting marketing and also cheese and butter quality.
