SHOT THROUGH THE HAND
RTFLE ACCIDENTALLY DISCHARGED. OPUNAKE MAN INJURED. (From Our Own Correspondent). While attempting to kill a beast at his slaughterhouse yard in Opunake on Friday last Mr H. Barraclough had a miraculous escape from more serious injury when a .2'J calibre rifle was discharged accidentally when it fell to the concrete floor and. the bullet passed through his hand. The beast was penned and Mr Barraclough was standing above it with the rifle prepared to kill the animal. The rifle was ready cocked, when suddenly the beast turned its head and knocked the weapon from Mr Barraciough’s hands. As it hit the conciete floor below it exploded and the bullet entered the middle linger of Mr Bairaclough’s right hand and continued throiigh the palm and out at the wrist, ft may be seen how fortunate Mi Barraclough was in that the bullet did not pierce some more vital part.
