PETRARCH WINS STEEPLES SUCCESS OF ROYAL EANQUET FINAL TO ROYAL BENGAL. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) HASTINGS, June 16. The Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s winter meeting concluded on Saturday in splendid weather before a good attendance. Tho racing was excellent and tho steeplechase was one of the best jumping icontests seen on the course for some years, the whole field keeping together splendidly, the three placed horses taking the last fence together. The totalisator fhr the day handled £6O9S 10s, compared with £6710 on Ihe second day last year. The returns for the meeting showed a decrease of £lO4l 10s.

Concluding results in addition to those published in Saturday’s late edition of the “Ilawcra Star” were as follow: —

2- Dozie, 9.12 (Webby) 2 3- Spalpiko, 10.5 (Savage) .. 3 Also started: 1-1 Cotsfield 11.3, 7-7 Taura Lad 10.0, 5-5 Victor Colima 9.5, 6-6 Heliotype 9.3. Cotsfield and Dozie led Spalpiko oyer the first two fences and then Spalpiko joined them and the three raced together for half n mile, when Dozie dropped back to third. Entering the se’eoml round Taura Lad joined Cotsfield and Spalpiko in the lead, Petrarch going up to fourth. Cotsfield made a bad jump and dropped back half a mile from home, where Petrarch and Dozie closed on Spalprko. trio landed over the Inst fence together, Petrarch winning by three lengths from Dozie, with Spalpiko four lengths away third. Cotsfield was fourth. Time, 5.4.

RITAKAWA HANDICAP. Of £BO, One mile. 1-1 Royal Banquet, 9.7 (Atkins) 1 4-4 Queen’s Pride, 9.1 (Morris) 2 3-3 Boudoir, 9.13 (Broughton) o Also started: Maine 9.7, Wcrohia 9.6, Tres Sec 5.2, Lady Wessex, Botliwell S.O. Won by two lengths and a-half; two lengths. Time, 1.44 2-5. WOODLANDS HANDICAP. Of £7O. Six furlongs. 3 Hunting Cat, S.B (Atkins) .. 1 1 Contact, 9.7 (Young) 2 3 The Grasper, 8.3 (Marsh) .. 3 Also started: 4 Windward 8.11. Windward led to the straight, followed by Hunting Cat, The Grasper and Contact. Hunting Cat took charge, but Contact came fast and failed to reach Hunting Cat by half a length, with The Grasper two lengths away. Time, 1.16 2-5. FINAL HANDICAP. Of £BO. Six furlongs. 2 Royal Bengal, 8.0 (Sheehan) 1 1 Slippery, 9.6 (Young) 2 3 False Scent, S.O (Leach) .... 3 The only starters. Royal Bengal led all the way and won easily by four lengths, with a neck between second and third. Time, 1.16.
