STATE REVENUE RETURNS INCREASE OP £3,000,000 ACCOUNTS AND COMPARISONS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, June 13. The outstanding feature of the abstract of national accounts for the financial year ended. March 31 iis published in. a supplement to the latest Gazette is a substantial increase in taxation receipts from £17,039,829 in 193334 (shillings and pence omitted) to £20,177,606 last year. CONTRIBUTION TO SINGAPORE. Under the heading grants and subsidies the payment of a proportion of the totalisator duty to racing clubs amounted to £27,289 atul in the preceding year this was £26,401. The contribution toward tho cost of the Singapore naval base was again £IOO,OOO, while miscellaneous grants and subsidies totalled £215,659 compared with £9470 in 1930-34. Salaries and honorarias absorbed £60,224 as against £56,013. The expenditure on highways totalled £1,586,964 compared with £l,201,837. Details are: Tire tax fees and fines transferred to main highways account £483,3.53, tax oil motor spirits transferred to main highways account £970,506, tax on motor spirits paid to boroughs £110,748, expenses collecting and making refunds £21,073, motor vehicles mileage tax and penalties £1284. In 1933-34 the highways expenditure in details was: Tyre tax etc., £409,228, tax on motor spirits transferred to highways fund £669,868, tax on motor spirits paid to boroughs £100,060, expense of collecting and making refunds. £21,101, motor vehicles mileage tax and penalties £1574. The sum of £903,071 was spent on defence, £437,839 going to naval defence and £465,232 to general defence. The corresponding figures in 1933-34 Were naval £397,384 and general £264,723, the total being £062,107. On the development of primary and secondary industries expenditure last year totalled £933,620 net as compared with £1,036,741 in the preceding year. In detail the'figures of expenditure Were: Lands and Survey Department £160,215, Agriculture Department £539,246, Department of Industries and Commerce and Tourist and Publicity £133,995, scientific and industrial research £53,126, ‘ mines £19,566, transport £27,469. In 193334 the detailed expenditure was: Lands and Survey £151,658, Agriculture £675,463, Industries and Commerce and Tourists and Publicity £118,235, Scientific and Industrial Research £48,748, Mines £19,539, Transport £23,095.

On social services the net expenditure last year was: Health £779,216 (£741,846), mental hospitals £252,442 (£233,501), education £2,595,660 (£2,526,078), pensions £3,439,878 (£3,260,108), national provident and friendly societies £77,538 (£80,285); totals £7,144,736 (£6,841,819). In 1933-34 the expenditure under the Banks (Exchange) Act was £7,614,000.
