Mis B. N. Linn, of Mangatoki, has left on a short visit to Wellington Miss M. Lloyd, who has been visiting Mrs Coupe at Te Kiri, has returned to Hawera. 'Miss Pat Lovell left yesterday to spend several days at Palmerston North. Mrs H- R. Komp left this morning for Auckland, where she will spend a few weeks. On Tuesday' afternoon the women of the Baptist Church entertained Mrs A. K. North at afternoon tea, when she was presented with a posy of everlasting flowers from the Hawera branch of the B.W.M.TL At the ladies’ afternoon badminton flub yesterday the members of the club bade farewell to Mrs A. K. North, who has always been a keen player. As the youngest member, Miss Mary Thomson made a presentation to Mrs North, the latter suitably replying. Mrs It. S. Haybittle entertained friends on Tuesday afternoon, when her guests at tea included Mesdames C. O. Pratt, G. C. Pickett, Eodney (Blenheim), R. J. O’Dea, 0. Whittington, W. Snowsill and Miss M. Gibson. The hostess’ frock was of black laco and mariette. Bowls of heather decorated the room.

Miss J. Lysaght invited a number of friends to the home of her aunt. Miss Lysaght, last Tuesday to spend the evening in dancing. The principal guest was Miss Margaret Tennent, who leaves shortly to live in Dunedin. Miss Torment’s frook was of deep coral taffetas, relieved with silver lame. Mrs Lysaght wore a becoming gown of deep Burgundy ottoman faille, and Miss J. Lysaght’s frock was of ivory windswept satin. The dance room, supper room and lounge were arranged with bowis of berried foliage and tinted leaves. Luring the evening Mr G. Laurence thanked the hostess for the most enjoyable dance which they had arranged. Miss Tennent, who was the recipient of a novelty posy, also thanked Mrs Lysaght and her daughter. There were two competition i dances. Mr F. Sparrow and Miss Betty Powdrell winning the Monte Carlo, | Mr Sparrow and Miss .M. Hawkeu being the winners of the statue waltz. The dance music was played by - Mr C. Lav is. Those present were Misses 8. Lysaght, wearing a black satin frock with a green coatee; H. Collins, powder blue spotted M. Thomson, cream brocaded, satin, blue capo; J. Lennon, white frilled organdie; M- Collins, apricot crinkled organdie; N. Duckworth, pastel pink blouse und black taffeta skirt; B Powdrell. raven’s wing blue windswept satin; R. (Pease, floral georgette and gold lame coatee; J. Powdrell, black moire taffeta; W. Scott, powder pink figured satin; Owen, black figured net over taffeta; J. Wylds, cornflour blue lace; M. Hawken, ivory net over taffeta ; A. Wills, claret coloured satin and’black coat; B. Ryan, blue plaid taffetas; M. Bright, dusky pink floral j organdie; M. Black, scarlet and black tunic frock; K. Coleman, eau de nil flowered taffeta; L. Chapman (Napier), geranium silk velvet; I. Lorimer (Scotland), Nippon green suede crepe.
