TINDALL'S LAST MINUTE. KICK. WELLINGTON, Juno 13. Fonn in the Possibles v. Probables Rugby trial match played in perfect conditions at Athletic Park to-day was disappointing. Probables ivon by 23 to 22 in the last minute, when Tindill.. who replaced Langdon an the last quarter, drop-kicked a magnficent field goal. Oliver (Canterbury) was unable to play and was replaced by Carlson (Waikato). The forwards on both sides played a solid bullocking game rather than constructive football and shone as individuals. The line-out play was poor, only King and Clarke showing worthwhile form in this phase of play. In the loose Deavoll, Niven, % King, George and Hattersley showed up, while King, Clarke, Best and Here did fine work in the tight. King was the outstanding forward on the ground. Hadley secured a greater percentage of the ball than Orman who, however, showed talent as a. hooker. Assisted by Hore as Hadley was Orman would have made good. In the backs Sadler, though subdued, was better than Simon. Langdon showed a complete lapse of form at first five-eiglith and lost all chance of final selection. Lc Qucsne impressed as a second five-eighth with possi bil.ities, while Solomon defended soundly but- showed little enterprise when lie had the chance of a lifetime. Caughey did well in the first spell but was subdued bv Mitchell in the second spell. Mitchell may yet win his colours as he played excellently in the second spell as centre. Holder was the best three-quarter, while Gilbert was the better of two average fullbacks, w.hose only claims to distinction were ability lo kick well. As a trial the form did not assist the selectors a great deal, and much will depend upon Saturday’s match. The weakness still appears to be in the five-eighth line, where Tindill today revealed fonn full of promise in the 15 minutes he was on the field. He so impressed the selectors that they decided to play him in that position on Saturday. Tindill lias never previously played as a. five-eighth. He was one of the Wellington representative half-backs of last year. TARANAKI MAORI NOMINEES: Five Taranaki names have been forwarded to the Now Zealand Maori selectors by Mr J. Martin, Taranaki selector, for the Maori All. Black team that is to tour Australia later in the season. They are George Harrison (Opunakc), Kingi Weterc (Tainui), Tui Robinson, George Ngaia and John Awahou (Okaiawa). All except We tore played in the recent Maori trial match at Hamilton.
