RENNET PRODUCTION
INCREASED SALES INDICATED. COMPANY'S ANNUAL REPORT. Aix inereaso in sales during the season is indicated in the annual report of the New Zealand Co-operative Rennet Co. Ltd. it is pointed out, however, that a considerable part of the value of the orders was cancelled owing to the dry weather affecting the cheese production. It is estimated that during the past season New Zealand cheese rennet was used for the manufacture of 90 per cent, of the cheese made in the Dominion and New Zealand cheese colour for 70 per cent, of the coloured cheese. The orders received for the 1930-3(i season show a further increase in the popularity of both these products. The company’s output of both rennet and colour is now larger than that of any other factory in the British Empire enabling the company to sell far below the prices charged cheese makers in other countries. In addition to the company’s own staff, considerable employment results from the preparation of veils and from the manufacture of drums and other containers. The raw products for colour and the various chemicals used in the manufacture of the products are almost entirely of Empire origin. Replacements have been necessary in the machinery for colour manufacture. The buildings have been added to by the provision of another storeroom and offices in keeping with the company's requirements. The report expresses regret at the death of Mr Dynes Fulton, a member of the directorate for seven years. Mr Fulton’s services to the dairy industry generally and to the rennet company in particular were well known. Mr Jacob Marx, who died during the year, was for many years a leader of the dairy industry in Taranaki and one of the original directors of the company. There was a further increase in membership, the following co-operative companies having acquired shares since the last annual meeting: Tnm-
aki, Mataura, Menzies Ferry, Lepperton, Brydone, Drummond, Clandeboye. Edendale, Bruntwood, Ihaia Road and Kaliui. The time is looked forward to when the company will include in its membership all Dominion co-operative cheese-making companies. The profit and loss account shows a balance of £101.) 17s and the directors recommend that the amount available after payment of income tax should be applied in reduction of the debt to the profit and loss account. T he directors retiring by rotation are Messrs W. Fisher and CL IT. P. Fitzgerald, who offer themselves for re-election. A separate election will be necessary to fill the extraordinary vacancy caused by tlic death of Mr Dynes Fulton. Mr O’eo. Buchanan, Paoroa, having been nominated. During the year Mr \Y. J. Tristram resigned his appointment as auditor and Mr H. A. Lennon was appointed in his place.
