EXTRACTS FROM “HAWERA STAR” MAY 4, 1880 Two members of the police force entered a Dunedin suburban hotel last Sunday evening to ascertain how the provisions of the Licensing Act were being attended to. St. Patrick’s College, Wellington, is now completed, and reflects credit on the contractor. The dormitories are lofty and airy, and ample ventilation has been provided for throughout the building. The main entrance js from Kent Terrace, and will be approached by a wide carriage-drive, now in coarse of formation. The college will bpgin work next month. * ❖ Hi V
The township of Okaiawa is increasing in size and population. One or two more married-men have-taken up sections and are building. Steps are being taken for the erection of a Wesleyan Church, the site chosen for which is adjoining Mr Maxwell’s section. sj: ij: % # #

awa district complain of a very poor potato crop, whilst others have proW duced good crops. The land must j /.vary in quality, and it certainly fluctuates in value, when the section forfeited by Mr Watts, after being so long in the market, fetched £l4 an acre at the last sale.
