Clashes Between Italian Police and German x Residents MARTIAL LAW POSSIBLE MASS ARRESTS MADE

According to unconfirmed reports guerilla, warfare, news of which the Italian Government has suppressed, is being waged between the police and -German speaking inhabitants in the region'ceded to Italy after the war. The Italian authorities are considering placing some districts under .martial Germany’s .success in the Saar has increased anti-Italian propaganda, and is believed to be responsible fob South Tyroleans violently resisting attempts to convert them to Italians by . proscribing Germany and allowing only Italian in tlie schools. There are tumours of bomb outrages on railway bridges and electricity works, besides, attempts on the Jives of prominent people/ The police are alleged to be making mass arrests aud the courts are severely punishing offenders. 1 A terrorist organisation was discovered at- Brixen. Those arrested were not the ringleaders, but students and the sons of business men, who are said to have received explosives from an unknown .source under a promise of payment for successful outrages.
