TALKIE ATTRACTIONS OPERA HOUSE. “ANNE OF GREEN GABLES”

Pursuing a policy of bringing fiction classics of early youth to the screen, L. M. Montgomery’s famous novel “Anne of Green Gables” has been filmed as a follow-up to the tremendously successful “Little Women by RKO-Radio. A story of a whimsical orphan whom Mark Twain once referred to as the most delightful girl character of fiction, “Anne of Green Gables ’ nas been a favourite with youthful and adult readers for twenty-six years. Winning immediate success after it was first published in 1908, it *has since gone through more than twoscore editions. With a total of more than 500,000 copies issued, it is definitely at the top rank of the world’s best sellers.

The story reveals the transformation wrought by the orphan heroine in the lives of the spinster and her bachelor brother, who adopt her. Il also traces a delightful boy-and-girl romance which has its inception in a country school acquaintanceship. GRAND THEATRE “DOCTOR MONICA” In ' “Dr. Monica,” a thrillingly dramatic story of a woman’s battle for love and happiness, Kay Francis plays the role of a professional woman as well as society leader. Others in the cast include Warren William, Jean Muir, Verree Teasdale and Phillip Reed. “Dr. Monica” will be presented at the Grand Theatre finally to-night. The Grand Theatre will be closed to-morrow, Anzac Day.
