ANZAC DAY OBSERVANCES

SOUTH TARANAKI SERVICES. 20TH: ANNIVERSARY OF LANDING.

To-morrow, which, is the twentieth anniversary of the landing of the Anzacs on Gallipoli, will be observed in South Taranaki.

At Hawera the service will follow the same form as last year, except that the function will take place in tlie afternoon instead of the morning. At 1.45 p.m. returned soldiers and defence units will assemble at the winter show buildings and march in formation, to the Memorial Arch in Princes Street, via Princes, High, Union and Nelson Streets. Tlie service will commence at the memorial arch, at 2.30 p.m. After a hymn, a reading from the Scripture and a prayer, the Mayor will deposit a wreath, after Which other persons may place emblems in memory of the fallen.

After the wreaths have been deposited a firing party will fire three volleys, and “The Last Post” and “Reveille” will be played by members of the Hawera Municipal Band. The sinking of the National Anthem will conclude the service.

In the afterrioon .members of the Hawera Women’s National Reserve will entertain returned soldiers at afternoon tea in tlie Soldiers’ Club. The service at Manaia will he held 'in the town hall at 1.30 p.m. The parade, which will consist of returned soldiers war veterans, territorials, boy scouts, girl guides, school children, the Manaia Municipal Band and the Auroa boys’ drum and fife band, will march from the domain gates at 1 p.m. to the town hall. After the service returned soldiers and their wives will be entertained at afternoon tea in the hall. The service at Normanby has been revived, and will be held in tha school groimds at 10.30 a.m. Returned soldiers, children and residents of the district 'are invited to attend.

The Ivaponga. service will be held at 2 p.m. in the town hall Ex-service-jneri, territorials, frontiersmen, guides and brownies, Kaponga, fire brigade, school children and the public arc invited to be present The Kaponga Woriicn’s Institute will entertain exservicemen and their wives at afternoon tea in the Parish Hall after the service.

The service at Patca. will take place in file town hall at 2 p.ni. Returned soldiers and other units will parade through the main street to the service. At Waverley the service will also be held in the afternoon.
