Floods in Gippslaiid Cause Thousands of Pounds Damage MANY HOUSES SUBMERGED BOATS TO THE RESCUE

The flood waters are subsiding, leaving a trail of devastation. Thousands of pounds worth of damage to stock and property has been done to an already impoverished countryside.
Bairnside and Sale remain completely isolated, and although no castialties occurred, settlers experienced difficulty in escaping from their inundated properties. Many houses are Submerged and rescue operations continued thoughout Sunday night and Monday. Whole families are being taken from their homes in boats. To prevent a repetition of the floods, the .Premier, Mr -Dunstan, announced that Cabinet would discuss immediately a programme of flood protection works.
