CHECK ON MOB VIOLENCE
FEDERAL jINTERVENTION SOCIAL SECURITY BILL DELAYED (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright). WASHINGTON, April 21. Sectional bitterness over Federal intervention to prevent lynchings appeared to-day as a formidable threat to retard the progress of the President’s legislative programme, with such important Administration measures as the N.R.A. extension, Social Security Bill and Bank Reform Bill still jammed in committeq. Senator Costigan announced that he would press for consideration of the Bill bearing his name assessing heavy monetary penalties on communities in which peace offcials allowed mob violence.
Southern Senators organised a bloc with the avowed intention to filibuster the Bill to death. Therefore unless Senator Costigan withdraws the Bill or a compromise is effected it may be a matter of weeks before other legislation can be considered.
