COMMUNISTS SCATTERED
Success of Anti=Red Drive in Chinese Province PLANS FOR AERIAL ATTACK FEARS OF LARGE ARMY
(United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph Copyright). Received 10.45 a.m. to-day. SHANGHAI, April 22. Although considerable success attended the anti-Communist drive in the province of Kweichow directed by Marshal Chang Kaisliek and resulted in smashing the grip of the Reds and scattering them towards Szechwan, much anxiety is felt as to whether the defeated hordes are fleeing for the purpose of joining a large Communist army operating in the vicinity of Chengtu. where three special aeroplanes have been evacuating foreigners, especially missionaries. Bandits are swarming everywhere in this region and Chinese are quitting Chengtu hurriedly by. every, available steamer and river craft. It is expected that Marshal Chiang Kais'nek will next personally direct an anti-Red campaign in Szechwan, again relying on aerial attacks.
