Heavy Rain in Waikato During Last 48 Hours
NO SIGN OF ABATEMENT DAMAGE TO HIGHWAYS
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) HAMILTON, To-day. Incessant heavy rain experienced throughout AVaikato over the last 48 hours shows no sign of abating and serious floods are likely if the position is not relieved.
During 48 hours the rainfall recorded at Huntly, Te Aroha, Hamilton, Cambridge, Morrinsville and Te Awamufu averaged between five and six inches.
.Several roads, mainly in the Glenafton district and in the area of the Taupiri drainage scheme are inundated and in some cases a considerable acreage of pasture is under water. Rivers and creeks are rising rapidly and further flooding is imminent. The main highway between Ngaruawahia and Hamilton, which is under repair, has been made into a quagmire, several stretches being covered fully a foot deep in mud. A new road formation on the Hamilton-Morrinsville main highway also is seriously affected.
HEAVY RAIN AT BLENHEIM. BOAVLING TOURNEY ABANDONED. BLENHEIM, To-day. Heavy rain which set in last night necessitated the abandonment of the Marlborough howling tourney at the conclusion of section play yesterday afternoon.
