The Auckland Racing Club’s autumn meeting opened at Ellcrslic yesterday in fine weather. The track was very fast' and the good fields engaged provided a splendid day’s sport for a large attendance. The totalisator handled £40,331 HCs, compared with £35,582 on the corresponding day last year. Double-figure dividends were returned, by Coronis, who ran second in the Easter Handicap, by Du Barry, winner of the Champagne Stakes, and Royal Secret, who ran first in the Eden Handicap. R. E. Thompson, rider of Yal Watch in the Brighton Hurdles, was thrown heavily when his horse fell at the second ifence. The jocfcey, who ijs 29 veares of age, suffered severe head injuries and a fractured collarbone. He was admitted to the Auckland Hospital in a serious condition.
