METHODIST YOUNG WOMEN

CHURA WIN SPORT EVENT.

The Methodist Young Women’s Bible classes of the Taranaki-Wanga-nui district will conclude a successful four days’ camp . at the , main school, Hawera, to-morrow morning. On Friday night a sacred play was presented by members of the Hawera classes and depicted, in stages, the conversion of the heathen to Christianity. ' A parade was held at the Methodist Church yesterday morning and in. the' evening a hymn service was conducted by Miss M. Stone, Rowan. The origin of the hymns and the lives of the composers were vividly described. Group studies have been a feature of the camp each day. A sports meeting was held on Saturday afternoon and after an interesting series of events the championship went to Ohura with 25) points. : Hawera senior and Hawera intermediate scored 16 and 8 points respectively.

The Taranaki Young Men’s Methodist Bible Class Union camp will conclude at the New Plymouth racecourse this afternoon. Over 50 members have spent the four days in a well-balanced programme of .serious study work and social activities.

Apart from the usual camp routine the first main function yesterday was a parade for morning service at Whiteley Church. ’ The afternoon was devoted to a conference of Taranaki class leaders and secretaries, and the evening service at the camp was* conducted by Mr J. H. Ledgenvood. A camp meeting under the charge of the Rev. J. D. Grocott and supper followed.

The annual sports for the championship banner commenced this morning. Events were contested in junior, intermediate and senior divisions.

HAWERIA PRESBYTERIANS ‘ WIN.

The Hawera Presbyterian Young Women’s Bible Class won the Taranaki banner of the New Zealand Union in the sports held at the camp at the Central school, New Plymouth, on Saturday. Hawera scored 42 points, while Okaiawa was second with 36 points. A basketball match resulted in North Taranaki defeating South Taranaki by eight goals to six. Results are :
