Sympathy with Mr J. W- Thomas (headmaster) in the death of his only sister at New Plymouth was expressed at a meeting of the Hawera Main School Band Committee this week.
At the Whangamomona dog trials yesterday reference to the death of Mr J. R. Corrigan was made by the club president, Mr J. K. Law. He said all would deplore the loss of Mr Corrigan, Avho might well .be called the father of the dog trial movement in Taranaki. All would agree that no man in Taranaki or the North Island had done more than Mr Corrigan to advance the interests of dog trials.
Formerly a well-known resident of' Taranaki, the death occurred at Christchurch on Thursday of Mr J)‘. AV. Court, 63 years of age. Mr Court was formerly connected with the wholesale department of Messrs Newton King Ltd. and was highly respected in the farming communities of both North and South Taranaki. After leaving New Plymouth Mr Court resided for some time at AVhangamomona. He owned large farm properties. He is survived by Mrs Court and three sons, all resident in Taranaki—Messrs S. Court, Inglewood. G. Court, Kaponga, and O’. Court, Mtham.
Following a long illness the death occurred at an early hour this morning of Mrs Florence Burfield Jones, wife of Mr Thomas Thimbleby Jones, of Kuri Street,. Kaponga, aged 70 years. She was a native of Geelong, Victoria, and arrived in New Zealand with her parents during the early gold rush days of the West Coast, landing first at Charleston. Later she spent about 30 ’ yeafrs in Kumara, Westland, of which town Mr Jones for many years was Mayor. Mrs Jones arrived in Taranaki about 18. years ago and settled in Kaponga where she took an active part in Anglican Church work. She leaves four sons—Messrs Albert Jones (Greymouth), Walter (Palmerston North), John (Auckland) and lloy Jones (New Plymouth).
