MUSIC IN HAWERA SCHOOLS

LONDON MUSICIAN’S TRIBUTE. “I am very glad to hear that you have a. children’s orchestra in Hawera,” said Mrs Stanfeld Prior, the enminent London musician, in addressthe Hawera Music Teachers’ Association last night. “It proves that you are beginning to study music in the right place, and I was immensely interested to learn of the work done in the schools. There is not nearly enough making of music in these days and no child who can hold a violin is too small to begin. I heard there was a children’s orchestra in Auckland, but had no idea there* was one in-a. town this size,” she said. ; It was pointed out that there was also* a military band in the schools, and on hearing this Mrs Prior reiterated her pleasure. “I think you are doing a splendid thing,” she said.
