DAISY REILLY MEMORIAL FUND

SUM OF £260 RAISED SCHOLARSHIP CONDITIONS At a meeting of subscribers to the Daisy Reilly Memorial Fund, held in Mr L. 0. Hooker’s office last evening,, and presided over by Mr J. W. Velvin, it was announced by the treasurer, Mr Hooker, that the fund, including accrued interest, now stood at the sum of £250 and that in addition the sum of £lO had been awarded as a scholarship at the 1934 Competitions Festival to Miss Jocelyn Purser.

Proposals were brought forward for the investment of the money, and it was resolved, on the motion of Messrs F. W. Sutton and L. O. Hooker, that the fund should be placed with the Public Trustee on permanent trust, and that the interest derived therefrom should be i>aid annually through the Hawera Competitions Festival committee to the winner of the Daisy Reilly Memorial Scholarship; the scholarship to be awarded annually to the competitor chosen by the musical judge at the Hawera Competitions Festival as the most promising com- j petitor in the musical sections of the festival who resides in the South Taranaki district ; the district to include Opunake, Kaponga, Stratord and Waitotara; the competitions festival committee to be empowered to make necessary regulations providing for the inclusion of such tost examination or other conditions for the award of the scholarship as it may think fit. Messrs F. W. Sutton, J. E. Campbell and F. W. Horner were appointed a committee to settle the terms of trust with the Public Trustee and to execute any necessary documents. Appreciative reference was made by the chairman and Mr F. W. Horner to the services which Mr L. O. Hooker had rendered as organiser and treasurer of the fund.
