SPEED’S NAPIER CUP SURPRISE BY CONTACT A TOTALIZATOR] INCREASE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) - NAPIER:, March 3. The Napier Park Racing Club’s autumn meeting opened on Saturday infine weather. There was a good attendance and the totalisator investments were £3771, compared with £3490 on the first day last year. The concluding results were:

SAPLING STAKES HANDICAP. Of £65. Five furlongs. 2- Passion Flower, 8.4 (Atkins) 1 1-1 Blue Garter, 7.11 (Leach) 2 3- Quake, 9.0 (Marsh) 3 Also started: 5-4 Lacquer 7.2 and Charade 7.2 (bracketed), 4-5 Mesurina 7.0. Won by a length; a neck. Time, 1.2 4-5. NAPIER. CUP. Of £125. One mile and a-quarter. 1 Speed ,9.0 (Anderson) 1 3 Sunny Sky, 7.11 (McNaugh- - ton) 2 2 Red Rufus, 7.10 (Jones) ... 3 The only starters. Time, 2.6 2-5. Red Rufus made the running to the straight, Sunny Sky and Speed following in that order. Sunny Sky ran a bit wide entering the straight, allowing Speed to slip through between Red Rufus and Sunny Sky. Speed had the measure of the opposition half way down the straight and won nicely by three-quarters of a length from Sunny Sky, who beat Red Rufus by half a length.

MAIDEN SCURRY. Of £55. Five furlongs. All 8.7. 8.7 Contract (Young) 1 1-1 Royal Feast (Marsh) 2 6-4 Father’s Choice (Leach) 3 Also started: 3-5 Potent, 11-12 Kroflite, 12-9 Caen, 9-8 Grand Vale, 7-6 Recitation, 10-9 Solaria, 9-3 Peggy’s Joy, 2-2 Vainsborough, 4-4 Hunting Cup. Won by two lengths each way. Time, 1.2 1-5.

AUTUMN HANDICAP. Of £95. Seven furlongs. 1 Cyclonic, 8.6 (Berrigan) 1 2 Cullus (Atkins) 2^ The only starters. Tiiiie, 1.26 4-5. "Cyclonic led all the way and won iy a neck. REDCLYFFE HACK HANDICAP.
