Signor Mussolini, in an article in the Popolo d’ltalia, emphasises how Hitler’s Germany is winning the birthrate battle initiated by Fascist Italy, says the Milan correspondent of the Times. He points out that when Hitler came into power in 1933 the German birthrate was 14.7 per thousand, whereas it is now 17.7.

“This is a far more important event than the Saar’s return to Germany,” says Mussolini. “Germany’s population is now nearly 68,000,000. It will have reached 70,000,000 by 1939 and, even if it maintains only the present rate, it will increase to 80,000,000 by 195Q.R
