SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP.
GOOD FORM REVEALED
Notwithstanding a gusty. wind which made the green tricky, the Park Bowling Club’s tournament for the singles championship created keen interest and revealed some excellent pTav. Mason and J. Thomas provided the best game in the Saturday group, a remarkably large number of bowls usually being within a small radius of kitty. Ure played a vigorous game to beat J. Thomas in the first game, but in the second game steady drawing by Thomas won the day. Mason, whose big drawing howls seemed to refuse \to negotiate the back-hand against the wind nearly recovered his disadvantage against W. Thomas hv winning the three heads before the last with touchers. Adams was hard to heat and D. Goodwin, a first-year player, made the veterans go all out. Results in the Saturday group are as follow: First round.—Ure 21 v. Toy 16, Goodwin 22 v. Jellyman 4, Mason 24 v. Gilligan 1, J. Thomas 21 v. W. Thomas 19, Nielsen 21 v. Cummings 16, Adams 2 lv. Cran 18. Second round.—J. Thomas 22 v. Adams 12, W. Thomas 22 v. Gilligan 8, Mason 22 v. Goodwin 35, Ure 21 v. Nielsen 18, Cran 21 v. Jellyman 12, Toy 21 v. Cummings 7.
Third round J. Thomas 21 v. Mason 14, Toy 21 v. Cran 14. Ere a bye, W. Thomas 21 v. Goodwin 14, Adams 21 v. Nielsen 15. Fourth round.—Ure 21 v. J. Thomas 12, Mason 21 v. Adams 17, W. Thomas 21 v. Toy 10. Fifth round. —J. Thomas 21 v. Ure 9, W. Thomas 21 v. Mason 19. ’.Ure, J. Thomas and W. Thomas each have one life left.
WEDNESDAY G ROUP.
In the "Wednesday group, Villars played most steadily and should he knocking at the door in the finish. Walsh v. Bremford and Chadwick v. Finnerty were both excellent games. The most exciting game proved to he the Bremford-Finnerty. Finnerty, resuming after rain interruption, carried the score from 15 —20 to 21—20. Results are :
First round.—Walsh 21 v. Bremford 18, Villars 21 v. Smith 5, Chadwick 21 v. Thurston 13, Finnerty 22 v. Nieper 7. Second round.—Finnerty 21 v. Chadwick 18. Bremford 21 v. Nieper 15, Villars 21 v. Walsh 14, Smith 22 v. 1 nurston 11.
Third round.—Villars 21 v. Finnerty 9, Bremford 22 v. Smith 13. Fourth found.—Chadwick 21 v. Walsh 11, Finnerty 21 v. Bremford 20.
Villars lias two lives, Chadwick and Finnerty one life left. The game Villars v. Chadwick was interrupted by rain at the score of 18—11 in favour of Villars.
