PILOT’S DILEMMA
DARWIN BEACON UNLIGHTED. FORCED LANDING MADE. (United Press Association —By Electrlo Telegraph Copyright.) DARWIN, Jan. 17. Captain Wilson ,pilot of the Empire mail ’plane which was forced, to land at Point Stuart, said the reason he was unable to find Darwin was because the Darwin beacon was not lighted. He would not have attempted the Timor Soa. crossing for £1,000,000 if he had known the aerodrome beacon would not be lighten. He was actually over Darwin headland without recognising it. This was due to the terrific storm.
