ATHLETES FAREWELLED
TEAM FOR CENTENARY GAMES. (By Telegraph—l’ivss Association.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 17. The New Zealand athletic team for the Melbourne centenary games was farewolled to-day prior to leaving by the Wanganella. Among those present were members of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, the Wellington Centre and the Wellington Amateur Athletic: Club.
>!r W. R. McVilly, president of the New Zealand Association, gave the team advice to be loyal and sportsmanlike. He announced that, in order to assist the manager, the council had decided to appoint MacFarlane captain of the team. The manager, Mr Towers, replied. Mr A. Kitto. president of the Wellington centre and one of the selectors of the team, expressed absolute confidence that it would make a name for itself and that tlio experience gained would bo of value in building up a strong combination for the next Olympic Games.
