Lyons, declined to comment upon the report that a request liacl been made for the appointment of the Duke of Kent as the next Australian Gov-ernor-General. Inquiries in official circles elicited the information that diplomatic lceler.s had been extended from Australia or. the subject, but that special circumstances rendered it impossible to expect any official statement on behalf of the Commonwealth. Sir Isaac Isaacs, the present Gov-ernor-General, who is now 80 years of age, will retire this year. He does not desire an extension of his term of office.
