ELTHAM SWIMMING CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING HELD. SEASON’S ACTIVITIES REVIEWED At the annual meeting of the El. tham Swimming Club the workings of the year were reported. Although the club had lost several of its members it had enjoyed a very successful year. The baths committee of the Eltham school gave generous assistance towards the upkeep of the baths and thanks were due to them and to many others who had so willingly assisted. Regret was expressed at the departure of some very valuable club members, including Messesrs J. O. Walsh, G. Chamberlain, H Perry, H. L. Kasper, O. Vincent. FIRST AID EXAMINATION The men’s first aid examinations, held under the auspices of the Eltham Rled Cross Society resulted as follow*. First year awards, Id. Woods, L. White and F. Hopkins, second year, R. Darling, L. McKain. S. Cross and P. Ilorrocks. NEW PLITNKET ROOMS. The tender of Mr A. Cialvray for the erection of the new Eltham plunket rooms has been accepted. The new building, which will be commenced this week and will be completed by Christmas, will be of handsome design and will consist of nurse’s room, rest room, clock room and a large public room. The building will be erected next to the Taranaki Power Board offices on the oiece of land donated by Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, M.P. PLUNIKET SHOP DAY. The annual shop day of the Eltham Plunket Society was held last Saturday, the day being fine with a large number of people in town. The results were most .satisfactory, £l6 being realised. Several competitions were held and the winners were as follow: Doll, Shirley Phillips. Silk stockings, S. E'. Carson. Christmas cake, W. R. G'ydc. Work of art, Mrs M. Paterson.

PERSONAL NOTES. Mr C. H. Free, of Mangatoki, left Eltham yesterday by mail train for Wellington. Mr H. G. Carman, chairman of the Taranaki Electric Power Board, left yesterday for the South Island to attend the opening of the Waitaki electric power works. Mr Carman ex. pects to be absent about three weeks, spending a holiday with his son, Mr Phil Carman. Mrs L. Phillips is at present au inmate of Mount View Hospital. Mr and Mrs W. M. Peacock gave a very enjoyable twenty-first birthday party to Miss Jean Paterson in the Anglican Hall. A large number of gifts were received and the evening was spent in games, musical items and dancing. Mr and Mrs J. Maulder, of Gisborne, are visitors to Eltham to attend the Maukler-Manley wedding. The Eltham Methodist Church held a very enjo3 7 able picnic at Taumata Park on Monday, when a large number of residents were present and tennis, cricket, rounders and other games were played. Afternoon tea was served by the ladies.
