An emergency meeting of the Tariffs and Commercial Treaties’ Committee of the Federation of British Industries, which was fully attended by representatives of the leading trades of the country, unanimously passed the following resolution which was forwarded to the President of the Board of Trade: “That His Majesty’s Government be requested to take imediately the strongest possible action to secure a settlement of the outstanding commercial debts owing by German nationals, and provide for methods which will ensure the payment . for current future trade with Germany, and further, negotiate with Germany as to future trade, so that in any control or license system, the position of British exporters will not be prejudiced.”
