SODIUM CHLORATE SUBSIDY

GOVERNMENT GRANTS £SOOO. RATE OF PENNY PER POUND. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 18. The Hon. C. E. Macmillan, Minister of Agriculture, issued a statement today that with a view to reducing the price of sodium chlorate to farmers the amount of £SOOO is being made available for the purpose of subsidising purchases of this material. It is proposed, the subsidy should be at tin: rate of a penny a pound and that it should be paid to importers very much on the lines of the subsidy to the manufacturers of superphosphate. In the ease of a wholesale purchase made since August I last the subsidy will be paid direct to the local body or other organisation concerned upon the production of evidence of purchase and upon an undertaking being given that where sales have, been effected the benefit of the subsidy will be passed on to the purchasing farmers.
