Jimmy McLarnin regained his world's welterweight championship tonight by winning a stirring fifteenround bout from Barney Ross. A crowd of 25,000 paid about £23,000 to witness the contest, which took place at Madison Square Gardens, Long Island. McLarnin weighed 10. and Ross 10.0£. The two judges were divided iri their opinion, but the referee, Donovan, cast the deciding vote in favour of (McLarnin on his fighting and boxing ability combined. Ross scored sporadically on furious two-fisted attack, drawing considerable blood. One of McLarnin’s eyes was closed and Ross was hammering him with both hands at the bell, but early points sco’red on slashing open attack and crafty in-fighting gave McLarnin the advantage.
