WHAKAMARA
CHILDREN’S FLOWER SHOW

A successful flower show was held in the Whakamara hall on Friday afternoon under the auspices of the Boys’ and Girls’ Agricultural Club. There was a good attendance of parents who took much interest in the many competitions. The chairman of the club, Mr Janies Potter, opened proceedings, and ihjhis address he thanked the judges aid others who had assisted. '
were as follow:Floating saucers—Madeline Barkla 1, Gwenda Potter 2; design in sand Koslyn Scott 1; posie—Jean Langley 1, Roslyn Scott 2; rock garden, Roslyn Scott 3.; drawing of a cow’s head—-Audrey Caldwell, Jean Langley and M. Barkla, first equal; handy article made by boy—Corrvn Buckell, Albert Le Fleming, first equal; vase of flowers, Audrey Caldwell 1, Jean Langley 2, M. Barkla 3 ; best selection of five vegetables—J. Dobson 1, G. Dobson and M. Barkla 2, equal; drawof a cow illustrating dairy points, with notes —D. Gulliver 1, I. Buckell 2, J. Potter 3. The judges were Mrs Christie, Miss Christie, Mr Williams and Airs Potter. During the afternoon a talk was given by Airs Barry, descriptive of a voyage from Christchurch to England and the Continent, via the Suez Canal about 60 years ago. Mrs Barry was acorded a vote of thanks and presented with a posy by Doreen Caldwell.
Afternoon tea was served by the elder girls of the club.
