OLD BOYS CRICKET CLUB

ONLY ONCE DEFEATED PLAY OF HIGH STANDARD SUCCESSFUL YEAR RECORDED. Cricket was of a high standard throughout the past .season, defeat being acknowledged oil only one occasion, states the report of the Hawera Old Boys’ Cricket Club, to be presented at tiie annual meetipg to-morrow night. The financial position is fairly satisfactory, continues the report, and ajl current expenses over the year had been met, leaving a credit balance of £2 12s 3d over the year’s workings. Subscriptions are far ahead of the previous year’s and a special effort by the committee was th© means of augmenting credits to the extent of £6 10s. The club’s officers made donations during the year. Expenses had been restricted as far as possible and the committee had endeavoured to establish a sound financial position. The team again annexed the Taranaki championship, and feels that ip defeating such a team as Western Park in the final it upheld the prestige of South Taranaki cricket. Congratulations are extended to its opponent on its success in winning the northern division championship. A number of players attained provincial honours, and the team as a whole recorded many fine performances worthy of the club’s reputation. In batting, bowling and fielding, individual players returned fine records over the season, W. Barker toppiug the batting averages with an average of 55, and O'. Stiirrock the bowling, with 63 wickets at an average of 9.4. Practw caiiy the same personnel was fielded throughput. Practices were well attended. During the winter the services of G. Moloney, T. Pritchard and H. Sugar, all of whom will be missed, were lost- The public showed its keen interest in the chib, both by donations and by presence sit matches; the Press with its reports arid' support and many others who assisted in making the vear successful.
