(By “Limited.”) ■ The Wanganui Jockey Club concluded a successful meeting on Saturday. After a run of bad fortune, K. Voitre regained form to ride four winners, a second and a third. Higgle Handicap. Carfex was narrowly beaten in the distance handicap by Tiger Gain, who was first away and managed to hold his position to the finish. Carfex was Tiger Gain’s nearest attendant in the earl.y stages, but lost his position at a critical part of the race and, his finishing run w r as hampered, being hemmed in by Lalla Quex and Mercian Prince. On getting out, Carfex cut. down Lalla Quex, but was too late to catch Gain. Passion Fruit, the favourite, was beaten three furlongs from home. It is considered that with a better run Carfex would have been returned the winner.

Debutante Stakes. Keen interest was taken in this juvenile event. The bracket (Severe and Entail) carriedjmost money. The race resulted in a win for Legatee, the first of the new. sire Posferity to score. Legatee was bred, by Mr G. M. Currie and is from Motley. He is owned by Messrs H. and N. Smith —not the Messrs Smith Bros., owners of Peter Jackson and Co. (Lady Ruler led into the straight and after a hard tussle Severe just headed her off when Legatee got up in the last stride to win by inches. The Hurdle Race. Brigadore was made a hot favourite for the Hurdle Race, with Emotion and Silent Bill also carrying good support. Illuminate signalised his first win over hurdles by leading all the way, winning decisively. Emotion, Silent Bill, Brigadore and Esteem were always handy to the leader, Brigadore and Emotion setting out after him two fences from home, where Emotion made a bad jump, losing ground. Brigadore failed to catch Illuminate, Emotion being a good third, with Esteem next. The winner paid a big dividend. Trial Handicap. Sir Nigel was much better supported than on Thursday, having Voitrc in the saddle, whereas on Thursday he was ridden by an apprentice, j Gallant Knight began well and was Heading at the turn closely followed by Royal Feast, Sir Nigel, Amante, Dawn Princess, Ethiop and Whetuma. Gallant Knight and Royal Feast were first, to turn for home from Sir Nigel, with Whetuma and Hukemanu coming fast. Over the Inst bit, Sir Nigel drew out to win nicely from Whetuma, with Hukemanu a good third after putting in a great run from the rear of the field. Royal Feast was fourth, followed by Leo Colossus, Gallant Knight and Ethiop. The Guineas. ‘ The race was run at a muddling pace and at the finish resulted in a clear

cut win for the Paper Money— Viceraine colt Pin Money. Evasion, Superior and Inveresk were the early leaders. Pin Money ivas taken to the front on the turn, increasing; the pace. Mother Superior, who had been running In the rear, also improved, her position and followed Pin Money into the straight, where Burnish had run up third after receiving a check earlier. Pin Money was not troubled in the run home to win by threequarters of a length from Mother Superior, who was closely followed by Burnish. Superior was fourth, then Inveresk and Evasion. It was a poor field and the winner, though useful, cannot be classed as last year’s winner, Red Manfred. Pin Money won the C.J.C. Welcome Stakes as a two-year-old and is a full brother to Rereatu, who won later in the day.

Moutoa Hack Plate. Having his second race after a lengthy absence, Midian brought off a mild surprise by winning the trophy race from Cyclonic, the favourite. Hest handy. Midian finished strongly Whetuma, Black Man, King Thomond, with Midian handy, was the order in the initial stages in a field of twenty runners. First into the straight were Purse, Cyclonic and Midian together, with Davistock, King Thomond and Host handy. Midian finished strosgly to beat Cyclonic by a head, with King Thomond lialf-a-length away and Headmistress fourth, closely followed by Silk Sox, Puree and Black Man. Silk Sox ran quite a good race. Davistock failed to see it out, after being, well placed. Owen Handicap. .Rereatu won the sprint race convincingly. Hitting the front after a furlong had been covered, he was never afterwards troubled and won decisively from Good Hunting, who just beat Pomp, with Orapai next and The Tiger last. The latter failed to show any of his usual brilliancy atid was never prominent. Spring Hack. Hunting Lodge was first choice in the concluding event, Rerepai, a first day winner, going out at a good, price. At the turn Courtega, Pheon and Collofiian were in front of Rerepai, Hunting Lodge, Gold Gleam and Tlvbiscus. Courtega led round for liohic with Rerepai from Pheon and Hybiseus. Rerepai finished too good for Courtega, the latter going under by a ! head, with Hybiscus lialf-a-length I back. Pheon was next, followed by Hunting Lodge, Canopy and Gold Gleam,
