KAPONGA

The monthly meeting of the Kaponga volunteer fire brigade was held at the fire station on Tuesday evening. Superintendent A. Melville presided. There was a good attendance of members. Reference was made to the recent fire when the dairy factory was destroyed, the superintendent remarking that this was the biggest..,, fire the brigade had been called out to for many years. The brigade’s gear stood the test well, but owing to the building being more than' half destroyed before the alarm was given it had not been possible to effect a save. Some damage was occasioned the liose leads bv the‘heat and other causes.

Vital statistics at Kaponga for month of April show that there were six births, no deaths and two marriages, while the figures for the same month in 1933 were two, nil, and two respectively. ’The second of the series of popular fortnightly dances held by the combined hockey clubs took place in the parish hall on Tuesday evening. There was a good attendance. Music was played by Miss M. Guy (Matapu). Messrs V. Betts and R,. Nooiffn officiated as M’sC. and supper arrangements were controlled by Mrs. W-- Carrington, assisted hv members of the clubs. A log cabin statue dance was won bv Mr. J. H. and Miss I. Melville.
