FARMERS’ UNION BRANCH ANNUAL MEETING (From Our Own Correspondent.) There was a fair attendance at the annual meeting of the Matapu branch of the Fanners’ Union held in the hall on Tuesday evening. The .president, in submitting the annual report and balance-sheet, stated that owing to the prevailing economic conditions the branch had not been as active a.s it might have been under better circumstances. Several lectures were given during the year, including those by Mr Dickie on ‘,‘Bohbv Calves,” Mr L. Taylor on. “Milk Cooling,” Mr Hume on'“Herd Testing and General Farm Practice” and Mr P. 0 1 . Yeale, of the Dairy Laboratory, Hawera, on “Methods of Securing the Finest Milk and Mr Linnell on “Dime and Its Uses.” Representatives of the Douglas Social Credit Association also gave addresses, A number of the branch members visited the Hawera Dairy Laboratory for inspection. Mr lite gave an address on union matters and Mr R, Free on the marketing of dairy produce. The accounts showed a credit balance of £4 9s 7d, which must be considered very satisfactory. Correspondence received from the Boys a,nd Girls’ Clubs Association requesting assistance was loft to the incoming; committee. The election of officers for the ensii.ii'i'*- vear resulted as follows : President? Mr W. T. Seed; secretary, Mi t> Downey: vice-presidents, Messrs H. Sharp and L. Preece; delegates, to conference, Messrs F. Palmer and \V. Gntcnby; auditor, Mr B. M. Barclay, delegates to the executive, the president" and' .secretary and Messrs H. Sharp and D. Preece. , A, Vote of thanks was accorded Mr Barclay for auditing the accounts. 3 he following remits were approved for presentation to the South Taranaki exeou'Yij That a more drastic application of the Noxious Weed Act be enforced, particularly on native lands. (i2) That more rigorous action be taken against offenders converting cars to their own use . A motion to telegraph to the Prune Minister urging the inclusion of land and .stock mortgages on the order of reference to the Royal Commission on dairying lapsed for want of a seconder, members assuming that the subjects would be considered at the provincial executive meeting. The arranging of a- social and dance in conjunction with the Women’s Division was left to the executive.
