SUNKEN SNOW HANGARS
’PLANES IN ANTARCTICA. WORK OF BYRD’S PARTY. (United Press Association —nv Electric Telegraph Copyright). NEW YORK, May 2. The latest report from Little America states that the men worked all day under pale moonlight lowering the giant Condor ’plane into a sunken snow hangar. A ten-miles-an-liour wind made the job difficult. Sjmilar hangars will be prepared for • the smaller ’planes. The Condor weighs about eight tons, including two tons of fuel. Easing it into the pit was exhaustive work. As one of the men said, it was “like trying to dry-dock a whale.” The barometer is falling and a blizzard is expected.
