EMPLOYMENT OF BOYS
AUCKLAND COMMITTEE’S WORK. LACK T/F PUBLIC INTEREST. fJiy Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 3. Last year the* Boys Employment Committee found country jobs for 500 city boys, the majority of whom, it is believed, would otherwise have become a charge on the city’s charitable organisations. It is estimated that the committee thus saved tlie community about £1:2,000. Tlie annual meeting held last night was attended by the president. Sir Joseph Smith, the secretary, and fifteen others. “Although sixty prominent citizens had been invited to come and hear of t»o committee’s work and. intentions, you should not be disappointed at the small attendance,” remarked the Mayor (Mr G. IV. Hutchison). “I have learned that the more yon do the less- the people- appreciate vcu. Had you not been carry in or out your work in a way the public appreciated, you would have had many more here to-night.” Another present remarked that all those who had turned up were extremely busy men.
