YOUTHS LOST IN BUSH
RESCUE IN SOUTHLAND HALF SANDWICH DAILY RATION. LITTLE WORSE FOR ORDEAL. (Ey Telejrrr.pU—Press Association INVERCARGILL, May 2. At six o’clock this evening W. Moore and F. Davis, two Winton youths who were lost in the Lillburn. Valley on Sunday*, returned to Winton little the worse for their experience'. They were discovered this morning in the dense bush country* by Mr T. Clark and party, who entered the bush the previous evening.. The . pair had subsisted since Hun day on half a sandwich each a day. They saw a search ’plane yesterday afternoon, but failed to attract the attention of the pilot as they were in a gully at the time and could find no dry wood to light a fire. They made for a ridge and about, an hour later again saw the ’plane. They were then able to light a fire, the smoke from which was seen by the airman, who was accompanied by Mf Clark. ' The latter organised) the party* that set out last evening. At 7.30 this morning Messrs Moore and Davis heard a “eooee” and l returned the call, the search party arriving on the scene 1 a few moments later.
