In the House of Lords Lord Mottistone appealed for recognition of the urgency for a common: Empire policy to meet the shipping position arising from foreign subsidies. He cited an American Line’s capture of the New Zealand trade with the help of a subsidy equivalent to £lO for each letter. Lord Templeinore replied fhat as soon as the Government formulated the main lines of a policy to aid shipping the Dominions would be consulted.
