HAWERA BADMINTON CLUB
OPENING OF 193-1 SEASON. LARGE ATTENDANCE AT COURTS. The official opening of the Hawera Badminton Club’s 1934 season took place at the Winter Show Bitildings in Hawera last evening, when there was a. large attendance of .40 players and a number of visitors from New Plymouth. The president (Mi - . R. Syme) welcomed members and visitors, especially those from outside the Hawera district. and stressed the value of inter-! club matches. He referred to the rapid growth of the game in Taranaki and advised till the. clubs to join the Western Districts Badminton Association. Mrs. N. Meuli, wife of the club captain, hit the first shuttle across t'he net and play was enjoyed on three courts for the remainder of the evening. Mr. C J. E. Smith replied on behalf of the visitors. He supported the idea of the inter-club games and hoped Hawera’s more experienced players would return the visit-.
