Allegations that they had been compelled to live under undesirable conditions were made by two prisoners, Raymond Claude Hogg and John Thomas Hartley, when appeared in the (Supreme Court on a charge of" escaping , from lawful ciistod3 r at the Hautu prison camp on February. 16. They pleaded guilty. ‘‘i\Vhy did you not plead guilty in the lower Court and save the trouble of bringing the case to this court?” asked Mr Justice Ostler of the prisoners.
It was explained by Hartley that lie had been uncertain how to plead until this week. He also said lie preferred to be dealt with by a judge than by a magistrate. Accused wore remanded for sentence.
