TARANAKI MEN’S HOCKEY

SOUTHERN DIVISION COMPETITION. EGMONT FIELDS TWO SENIOR TEAMS. Following a meeting of members held at King Edward Park in Hawera vesterday the Egmont Hockey Club 'decided 'to enter two senior teams m the South Taranaki hockey competition this season, a decision which, relieves the fear that the competition mmht fall through because of the Egmonfi team’s strength. _Egmont, first as the Oriental team of the Hawera Club and then as a separate club, has shown a superiority in the last few seasons and was much too strong tor some of the country clubs. This was pointed out to Egmont, the senior members of which favoured a division of strength. At a practice yesterday the junior players agreed to fill in tne gaps in two senior teams, and the teams as nearly as possible will be ol equal strength. The competition opening was postponed from yesterdav until the position of the Egmont club was defined. The club will not now field a iunior team. , Appreciative remarks were mane about the club’s sporting action bv hockev plavers and it is considered that the change will make the competition an interesting one The Egmont teams will be: A team: King, R. Clarke. Hey, S. Brough, R. Duncan. Westwood. 1. Percv, Gribble, F. Clarke. L. Foy, A. Wallace; emergency. A. Stevens. B feam : Birkett, Badcock. M. Thomson, K. Fov. F. Leach, AV. Clarke, L. Guvs. F.
