JAPAN’S TRADE PROTECTION
ROWER'S UNDER NEW LAW AMENDMENT OF TARIFFS ■ United Press Association—By Electric Telegrapti Copyright.) TOKIO, April 30. . The Foreign Office announces that the Trade 'Protection Act which empowers the Government to reduce or exempt duties, will become effective tomorrow. The law is designed to enable Japan to adjust the trade situation, balance her international payments and safeguard commerce against a growing world-wide tendency to ignore the fundamental principle of co-operative, reciprocal commerce, particularly by increasing the barriers against Japanese exports. “The Government does not intend anything which is likely to aggravate the present difficulties,” says the Foreign Office. “On the contrary it hopes it will be unnecessary to invoke the law.”
