CHARGES OF SAFE-BLOWING
NAPIER- AND' PALMERSTON MAN 'WITH EXPLOSIVES (By Telegraph —Press Assoc-ialior:.) PALMERSTON X., April 30. In the Palmerston North Court today Patrick James Burke, a labourer, aged 45, was charged with being found in possession of explosives without lawful purpose, and with stealing n revolver. lie was sentenced to a month’s imprisonment on each charge, the sentences to be concurrent. Burke was committed for tentencc to tlio Supreme Court on charges of breaking and entering the Gaiety Theatre, Napier, and stealing goods and money, and breaking and entering the Manawatu Club, Palmerston North, and stealing money and goods. In eaeh of these two cases evidence was given that explosives had been used on the safes. Burke pleaded guilty and was remanded to Wanganui on a charge of breaking and entering at Halcombe.
