The death of Mr Henry 'George Alpe, a- A'eteran long distance Avalker, latterly for charities, is reported in a Press Association message from Wellington.
Advice has been received by the sisters of the Hawera Convent that two pupils, Sheila O’Brien and Jaime GoodAvin. have been aAvarded the National Business College gold medals as a. result of the examination in commercial subjects held last December. The death of Mr James Drummond at the advanced age of 98, has occurred at Braeburn, states a Press Association message from Nelson. He arr'lA'ed in Noav Zealand in 1855 on the ship Sir Alan ‘McNabb, proceeding, to the RiAvaka district and Avas in the Collingwood gold rush of the early sixties. He is surviA'ed by ten children and a largo number of grand and great grand children. The death of Mr AndreAV Dunn, aged 79, is reported in a cable message from Brisbane. He was the owner of a chain of country newspapers in Queensland. Ho Avas one of the founders of the Queensland Country Press Association and at the time of his death published fh r o daily. newspapers and three Iveeklies. He was formerly a seafaring man. A chance appointment on the staff of the “Maryborough Chronicle” started his neAVspaper career.
