Twenty-two were killed and 30 injured when a military force opened fire on a Mohurran procession in Sultnnpur, Kapurthalta State. The procession, which consisted ol about 6000 Moslems, defied the orders of the State and tried to take a banned route. Magistrates warned those in the procession to turn back, but the latter advanced instead. The magistrates then called on the military and 41 rounds were fired. Although a number of Moslems fell the mob refused to turn back until charged with fixed bayonets.
