CASE FOR SUPREME COURT.

MAN CONDUCTS OWN DEFENCE.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, April 30. A finger print found on the window of a house into which he is alleged to have broken was the chief evidence relied on ,bv the Crown to establish one of the charges against James Perry in the Supreme Court to-day. The Crown Prosecutor (Mr Macasscy) said the print was similar to that of the accused. It was left by the middle finger and according to Senior-Sergeant Dinnie, who is in charge of the criminal investigation branch, there were 14 points of similarity making it impossible to be that of anyone else but the accused.

Perry is charged (1) with .breaking and entering with intent to commit theft in a house in Hansen Street ; (2) with breaking, entering and .stealing a handbag, two diamond rings', and a wedding ring of a total value of £66, also a cheque for £lO from a house on the Terrace; and (3) with breaking and entering a house in Endeavour Street and stealing a handbag and a ladies’ wristlet watch.. Perry conducted his own case, but did not give evidence. The jury has retired.
