SIR G. DU MAURIER DEAD
FAMOUS STAGE FIGURE. CAREER OF FORTY YEARS. limt-a iswocraMo. —By Electric Telpafapc Copyright.) LONDON, April 11. The death has occurred of Sir Gerald du Maurier, the actor and producer. Sir Gerald underwent am internal operation and appeared to be recovering when he suffered a relapse. His wife was called to. his bedside, but he did not regain consciousness. Newspapers, actors and actresses pay a tribute to him as the "Godfather of the Stage.” Mr John Collier, the artist, aged 84, also died 'to-day. Mr Collier and Sir Gerald du Maurier were neighbours at Hfljnp stead.
Sir Gerald du Maurier was born in 1873, the son of the late George du Maurier, writer and artisf, and famous as the auithor of "Trilby.”
Sir Gerald first appeared on the stage in. 1894. He produced numerous plays a'nd was the part author of several. He figured in early English films, including "Escape” and recently in "Lord Camber’s -Ladies” and "I Was a Spy.”
