TENNIS AND CROQUET CLOSING OF THE SEASON (From Our Own Correspondent.) The Alanala, Tennis and Croquet Club held fits, closing day on Wednesday. Air F. Garner, president-, in declaring the courts closed, announced that the club had had a very successful season. -Hb thanked all. members who rallied round and helped in every way. Air .Gairner suggested that the members form a. working bee through, the winter, and also keep the courts cut. He also voiced: complimentary remarks in reference to Air Jeffery Hammond on Iris cmro of the lawns.
The function, ended with all members giving three cheers for Air and Airs Garner and Air James Hammond (secretary) for their combined efforts dn making the season, a. successful one. Alins -Garner presented the following tennis trophies : Men’s championship singles.—A. J. Christie. Ladies’ championship singles.—Miss G. Hillies. Ladies’ handicap singles.—Aliss K. Lillev. Men’® handicap singly, Miller Cup. —Rev. Aliller
Hammond Chip.—Aliss. G. Hillies and G. H. Aleuli. Junior handicap singles.—Alac Aliller. Airs Garner also presented the trophies to the winners of the recent tournament .as follow: Ladies’ singles, Hasel Hobday ; men’s singles, G. Innes ; men’s doubles, AloDonald Bros. • ladies’ doubles, Misses; H. Hoibday and N. Payne; combined doubles, Aliss Al. Burke and Harris. Airs Snowden presented the. following croquet, trophies: Meuli challenge cup.—Airs Snowden ; runner-up, Airs Sboddatrt. Junior handicap mingles.—Airis Christie. . .

Alr.s; Snowden, president of the Croquet Club, presented Airs Hobday, on behalf of the members, with a, small gift as an appreciation of her services as secretary of the cluib. Airs Hobday replied. The first of a series of card and social evenings was held by tlie club; in the Oddfellow's Hall on Wednesday evening. There wa.s a large attendance of members and friends. Items were contributed by Alesssr.s Crompton, John-1 son and Cottrell, whilst the accompanists were Airs Davies, and Mess Alackay. ■Extra® were, supplied by Alts Watts and the Afisses Tv. Long and P. Yorlse. Dance music was .supplied by an orchestra under the conductors hip of Air V. Winter, consisting of Alls® K. Lilley, Messrs C. Sproule, J. Crompton, P. Mullein, J. Llovd and l F. Garner. The snipper was in the capable hands ec Alesdames Hobday, Garner, A. H. Christie. Browning and Aliss- Armitage. The bridge prize' was won by Airs Rodie. The president. Air F. Garner, thanked all. those present for their attendance, stating that there would he another function in a fortnight’s time in the form of flag bridge. A. competition in aid of the Croquet Club was drawn during the evening and resulted as follows: First prize (two sheep) Air H. Broadfoot: second prize (one sheep), Airs S. V. Washer; third prize (bag of coal), Mrs P. S. Riley, Piliama.
