One of the most .serious riots that have yet occurred anywhere in the country, resulting from the cessation of supplying relief provisions to t-ho unemployed .tok place at Alinneapolis, Alinnesota, to-day. Following tfte arrest- of a. delegation wearing red arm bands and led by a woman on crutches, as it attempted to enter tjie town hail to present demands for the continuation of oiviL works, administration and cash relief funds a fight between the police and unemployed broke out. Eighteen persons were injured and the footpaths were -spattered with blood. Three thousand demonstrators attempted to rush the town hall only to be repulsed repeatedly by the police, ten of whom were badly beaten by the mob. While the police refrained from, employing machine guns, mounted men near the building depended chiefly m batons and tear gas to restrain the rioters, the latter hurled paving blocks, coal and scrap iron from passing vehicles, not only injuring police, but also doing considerable damage to the town hall itself.
With the howls of the mob clearly audible the city council hurriedly voted the relief demanded. When tnis information was communicated to ihe rioters they gradually dispersed, hut the notice maintained ai heavy cordon round the building on hearing imno'ii'A that a bomb outrage might bo attempted.
